Declaration of Peaceful Intent

The Declaration of Peaceful Intent.
To Establish Proof of Peaceful Intent,
or Proof of the Absence of Peaceful Intent
of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists,
and Non-Adherents of any Religion.

Wanted: worldwide results regarding the willingness of members of different faiths to sign a Declaration of Peaceful Intent renouncing any calls to violence in their core religious texts.

Evolution of the project. Initially there were only 2 Declarations, one for Christians and one for Muslims. Now there are separate Declarations for 6 different major faiths, as well as one for non-adherents to any religion.

Why? It's essential to take into account the content of the different religious texts, as well as to recognize the significant percentage of the population that are not adherents to any religion. A generic Declaration with no reference to specific passages makes no sense when one looks at the huge differences between the core religious texts of different religions. In fact, the Declaration arose from concern about passages in the Quran, and from counter charges that there were even worse passages in the Bible. Therefore, it's essential to look at specific passages and see if adherents will renounce any calls to violence - in other words, if they will declare their peaceful intent.

Please help. Join in this project. Please download the suitable Declarations of Peaceful Intent, and bring them to appropriate people and places. A place of worship may be excellent: church, synagogue, temple, mosque, whether or not you are a member.

Explain the project:

The goal is to establish if people from different faiths have peaceful intent. For this reason the Declaration of Peaceful Intent was created. People are being asked to sign this Declaration renouncing any passages in their core religious texts that call for violence to be done now, and attesting to their peaceful intent.

Note that people are only being asked to renounce doing violence called for by their religious texts. They are not being asked to renounce, for instance, self-defense and participating in the police force and army of their countries.

DOWNLOAD the Brief Explanation of the Project

Give out the Declaration.

Collect the signed Declarations.

If someone is unwilling to sign, see if the person is willing to give their name. If not, please note how many people are unwilling to sign, and their faith.

If you could videotape any of your encounters (on your smart phone, for example), that would be wonderful.

And then, please send the results to:
declaration (which is at) westindanger.com

You may be contacted by email for proof of the results - for instance, by providing photos or scans of the Declarations. Note: names and addresses would never be published, but would be kept, as evidence that can be checked.
